The title The Medium of Proof comes from a definition of proof that states, “Properly speaking, proof is the effect or result of evidence, evidence (therefore) is the medium of proof.” There was a statement for this show that read, “The work is tactile and aggressive, as though it seeks to prove painting’s vitality in an environment in which discourse has replaced painting as the dominant art medium. Encaustic painting, in Randall Steeves’ work, is the medium of proof.”
